SWAF 2025 Highlights: The Lumaca

Room 1203 Charney AudioUpon entering room 1203, I found myself staring at two Darth Vader-like monoliths. These were the Lumaca speakers from Charney Audio. These speakers utilize one full-range driver that creates all sound from the lowest bass to the highest overtones. The horn-loaded bass uses a Tractrix theory model which incorporates a long tube extending over the top of the speaker and through a large opening at its base. Amazingly, this is one reason the speaker's sensitivity is 106dB/W/m at its 8 Ohm rated load. That makes it easy to pair with even the lowest-powered tube amps rated at less than 5 Watts. Several configurations of the Lumaca are available from Charney Audio, ranging in price from $61,000 to $95,000 per pair.
