Michael Klementovich
For many years, I was drawn to the idea of full-range drivers and crossover-free loudspeakers. Yet after numerous auditions and decades spent pursuing great audio, I often walked away disappointed. Like many enthusiasts, I invested significant time, money, and effort into the hobby, experiencing both successes and plenty of lessons along the way.
That changed when I visited Charney Audio in October 2020.
After a 75-minute drive with modest expectations, I was completely unprepared for what I heard. The listening session began with the Concertos and continued with the Companions, and within minutes I realized I was experiencing something truly special.
The biggest challenge wasn't deciding whether I wanted a pair. It was deciding which pair to choose.
Both models delivered an extraordinary combination of speed, clarity, dynamics, and power. From deep bass to the highest frequencies, every aspect of the presentation felt natural, balanced, and effortless. I intentionally challenged the speakers with complex musical passages, dense arrangements, male and female vocals, jazz, folk, and a wide variety of recordings. No matter what I played, they handled everything with remarkable ease and composure.
What impressed me most was their ability to remain clear and coherent regardless of the material. The music simply flowed, revealing detail and emotion without ever sounding forced or analytical.
It was one of the most memorable listening experiences I have had in decades of pursuing great sound.
Equally important was the atmosphere Brian created during the audition. There was no sales pressure, no exaggerated claims, and no need for a sales pitch. The speakers spoke for themselves.
I left knowing that my only real decision was determining which Charney model would best suit my room. That's a wonderful problem to have.
