Chris Rodgers

I have known Brian Charney for more than a decade, first meeting him while purchasing a DAC and hearing it demonstrated through one of his early full-range horn systems. That experience was my introduction to single-driver loudspeakers, and I was immediately captivated by what I heard.

Over the years, Brian helped me refine my audio system, modify equipment, and explore a variety of full-range speaker designs. Throughout that time, he often talked about his vision of applying Tractrix horn theory to create something entirely his own. While I admired the ambition, I wasn't entirely convinced it would become reality.

Then one day, Brian called.

He told me he had done it. Not only had he built the horns he had envisioned, but he had designed and built the machinery necessary to make them a reality.

Two days later, I was sitting in his listening room, staring at a pair of Concerto and Maestro horns. My first reaction was simply amazement. They were unlike anything I had ever seen. Beautiful, sculptural, and clearly built with extraordinary attention to detail.

Then the music started.

For the next six hours, I experienced one of the most memorable listening sessions of my life. The scale of the presentation was extraordinary, with exceptional height, width, depth, tonal richness, and bass articulation. No matter what music we selected, the speakers delivered a deeply immersive and emotionally engaging experience.

What struck me most was that I stopped listening to audio equipment and started connecting with the music itself. Every nuance, every performance, and every emotional detail felt more accessible and meaningful. Recordings I thought I knew revealed entirely new layers of depth and expression.

The experience was powerful enough that I left with one question on my mind: How am I going to afford a pair of these?

A little over a year later, I purchased a pair of Maestros, and they have brought me joy ever since.

My listening room is modest in size, yet the Maestros have performed beautifully with a wide variety of amplification, including Class A/B solid-state, Class A solid-state, digital amplifiers, vintage push-pull tube designs, and Class A SET 300b amplifiers. Regardless of the electronics, one thing remains consistent: the music always shines through.

These speakers reveal the strengths of every amplifier while honestly presenting their limitations. More importantly, they never distract from the reason we pursue this hobby in the first place. They make music enjoyable.

In fact, my listening room doubles as my home office, and there are days when it's difficult to leave. More often than not, I'd rather stay in my chair and continue listening.

Brian has created something truly special. These speakers deliver everything I could hope for, not only to my ears, but to my heart and soul as well.
